The first ever NS Fastpitch Early Bird Showcase was a sucess. After being rained out on Saturday, the weather was beautiful on Sunday for a full day of action at Elk Park. In game 1 the SBGSL downed the U23 Mastodons and moved on to play Guysborough/Halifax. The Pepperjacks came out on top moving them to the final, meaning the SBGSL team had to play a 3rd straight game against the U23 Mastodons they beat in game 1. The Shooters team used a big 3rd inning to go up 7-2 and held on to win 7-5, meaning they would play a 4th game of the day in final vs the Pepperjacks. The teams played a full 7 innings in the final, and decided together to call it draw, wanting nobody to end up hurt this early in the season. Centerfield was full again for the day, and plenty of people came and went during the day taking in the action. Thank you to all the players, teams and umpires who took part, to the U19 Royals who ran the canteen making sure all the players were fed and hydrated and to Pibby for having the field in great shape for the day. It was a fastastic Early Bird event, now we look forward to our league kick off tournament starting this Friday in Brookfield and Lantz, and finishing up in Lantz on Sat and Sun.
